How do I fix the ‘There was a problem displaying this chart’ error in dashboards?

Some charts require input in specific controls to display correctly. For example, the chart above expects a value in the ‘Start YYMM’ control. To resolve the issue, set ‘Start YYMM’ to two months ago in the YYMM format, or any month after 1901 (January 2019).
