Airlines often sell flights under their own brand that are actually operated by another airline. The airline selling the flight under its own flight number is known as the marketing airline. It is the airline whose two-letter code and flight number appear on the ticket for that flight segment.

The marketing airline is different from the ticketing airline. The marketing airline is defined at the flight-segment level, while the ticketing airline applies to the entire ticket. A ticket may contain multiple O&Ds and flight coupons, and those coupons may have different marketing airlines.
